To create each image, I found photos of hominids online and used image trace in illustrator to obtain a simple geometric pattern that represented the image. I then built a program that generated three sets of the letters A, C, T and G that were 97% similar and overplayed each pattern on the resulting texts.

Humans differ from other hominins in about 3% of our DNA. Although seemingly insignificant, these variations produces drastic differences in the appearance and behavior of humans, apes ,and chimpanzees. Through typographic visualization, this piece explores how subtle variations in genomes can create difference and complexity.
